120FR STEPHENS TRUSONIC Speaker Cabinet

The Stephenson Amplification Trusonic 120FR 12-speaker cabinet is a powerful and versatile powerhouse for guitarists and bass players in search of rich, full-bodied sound. This particular model in the Trusonic series comes equipped with twelve 10-inch custom-designed speakers, each featuring a rare earth neodymium magnet and a ceramic driver. The use of neodymium magnets results in reduced weight without compromising sound quality, making this cabinet an ideal solution for musicians who require portability without sacrificing tone.

The Trusonic 120FR boasts an impressive 400 watts RMS power handling per cabinet, ensuring it can deliver ample power to drive the speakers to their full potential. With a frequency response of 32 Hz to 20 kHz, this cabinet is well-suited for various musical genres. Additionally, it incorporates an excellent impedance rating of 8 and 16 ohms, making it compatible with a broad range of amplifiers.

This speaker cabinet showcases stepped baffles and a unique rear-ported enclosure design. The stepped baffles offer several benefits, including improved sound dispersion, easier microphone placement, and a sleek, modern aesthetic. The rear-ported design allows for increased airflow and efficient speaker movement, ultimately contributing to better sound quality and clarity.

Crafted from high-quality, Baltic birch plywood, the Truso nic 120FR cabinet is highly durable, rigid, and resilient. The Baltic birch provides natural, resonant tonal qualities, and its plywood construction ensures the cabinet can stand up to the rigors of regular use on the road. The exterior is covered with a beautiful, high-grade tolex material that not only looks great but also complements the streamlined, ergonomic design of the cabinet.

Additional features include convenient recessed handles, protective metal corners, and a reinforced outer edge for extra durability. Its dimensions measure 29.5 inches in height, 25.25 inches in width, and 16 inches in depth, making it a mid-sized option that's easily transportable while still offering the benefits of a large speaker cabinet.

With its impressive array of features, the Stephenson Amplification Truso nic 120FR 12-speaker cabinet offers guitarists and bass players an exceptional combination of power, sound quality, and portability, making it an excellent choice for players in various musical contexts.

The Stephen's Trusonic 120FR 12-speaker cabinet is a popular choice for musicians looking for a versatile and powerful amplification solution. Here are some potential pros and cons to help you make an informed decision:

Pros:

1. Powerful and Versatile: With its 120 watts RMS power rating, the Trusonic 120FR can easily handle acoustic and electric instruments, and is suitable for both live performances and studio recordings. The cabinet offers a variety of input options, including XLR, TRS, and RCA, making it compatible with a wide range of sources.

2. Customizable EQ: The 12-band graphic EQ allows for precise sound shaping and tailoring to different venues and instruments. This feature is particularly useful for acoustic musicians who need to adjust their tone to various acoustic environments.

3. Durable Construction: The cabinet features thick, 15mm Baltic birch plywood construction and heavy-duty corner protectors to ensure durability and withstand rigorous use on the road.

4. Compact Size: Despite having 12 speakers, the Trusonic 120FR is relatively compact, with dimensions of 24" x 18" x 13.5", making it easier to transport and store compared to larger cabinets.

Cons:

1. Expensive: The Trusonic 120FR is on the higher end of the price spectrum for speaker cabinets, which might be a limiting factor for some musicians or bands.

2. Heavy: While the compact size is a plus, the 49.6 lbs (22.5 kg) weight can be a challenge for some musicians to transport and set up by themselves.

3. Limited Bass Response: The small size and number of speakers result in limited low-frequency response, which might not be ideal for heavier musical genres that require more bass.

Conclusion:

The Stephen's Trusonic 120FR 12-speaker cabinet offers a high degree of power, versatility, and customizability, making it an excellent choice for acoustic musicians and small-medium sized bands that require a versatile, lightweight, and transportable solution. Its 12-band graphic EQ offers extensive tone-shaping capabilities, and the cabinet's durable construction ensures longevity. However, its cost and limited bass response might be drawbacks for some potential buyers.

Recommendation:

If you need a powerful, versatile, and compact speaker cabinet with excellent tone-shaping capabilities for acoustic and small-medium sized bands, and are willing to invest in a higher-end solution, the Stephen's Trusonic 120FR could be an excellent choice. If budget or bass response are a concern, you might consider exploring other more affordable or bass-focused cabinet options.

Rare bird stuff. The driver is in perfect cosmetic condition with a DVR consistent the factory nominal 16 ohm rating. When I hooked this into my heresy system it sounded just as efficient the clips. This is described as a full range speaker and performed quite well with rolled off high.

Like a bl d120 say. Here is a very unusual 12 Stephens Trusonic speaker with factory cabinet. Walnut veneer mostly excellent with a bit of water blemishing on the top. I'm sure I was the first one inside since this left factory in early.

Made in the USA. Especially when not in direct sunlight.
