Details:
Next- I used copper LTZ wire. And yes she is loud. Fully tested under complete diagnostics and operates without any rubbing, smoking, buzzing, holes, rips, or tears. Up for grabs is this 18 1940s Jensen/western electric like auditorium loudspeaker.
Its a heavy cast aluminum frame, and with rather large and heavy. There are no after market, replacement, import, or China crap parts in it, but American made components. I used a voice coil that had the correct winding height , and same wire gauge as oem. And its curve-linear in profile.
I didn't know if should have re-shot it to make look new, or just leave show its actual condition, so only re-painted the bell cover with black hammer-ite paint. For an ancient design, this thing still has balls. That means that the cone and surround were made at same time, with materials, molds. OK, so the frame is in its original paint.
Its quite unique looking and goes with this speakers cosmetics perfectly. From what I can gather, this is either a late 30s or 1940s model, and these frames were used by western electric, as well Jensen. And what makes this model a little harder to exactly nail down, the handles are in frame, and not on bell cover. The star of the show is that cone assembly.
Its repressed and a smooth/ no rib body profile. Heres something you won't find at Walmart. Front mounting gaskets are that hard, repressed cardboard type gasket, so you rear baffle guys all set. This is much better than the standard gray pot-metal type, which does nothing but smudge and smear signal before it even gets to voice coil winding's.
I think that about does it for the components. The spider assembly nothing overly exciting here. From the voice coil, out to front mounting gaskets, shes all 100% oem/ American made components. Alnico magnetic structure, with thick pole plates, and the 3 bolt system holding it all together.
And- I also placed heat shrink around it to help with lead whip. Any questions or concerns, just ask. Plus it looks pretty cool. Shes basically a new unit again.
Possibly better. This is an all paper/ fixed edge/ full paper body assembly. Heck, just that parts is worth hundreds of dollars. I played with this thing in a large vented enclosure, as well folded front loaded bass horn, and is incredible.
Its not a cloth, or foam surround, but an all paper cone, like the oem were. When I obtained it, she needed rebuilt, so stripped her down to bare magnet and metal, everything was replaced, as rebuilt it from the inside out. For the dust cap I actually had that no-lip, repressed, dented vented cap.
