The RH Logistics SPG-3 subwoofer is a passive, solid wood subwoofer from the 1970s. Here are some pros and cons that might help you decide whether to purchase this vintage audio equipment:

Pros:

1. Authentic Vintage Design: The SPG-3 subwoofer has a classic, vintage design that may appeal to audiophiles and collectors. Its solid wood cabinet is not only aesthetically pleasing but also provides better acoustic properties than MDF or other modern materials.

2. Rich, Warm Sound: The SPG-3 subwoofer is known for its rich, warm sound. Its large 18" driver delivers powerful bass with good depth and clarity, making it an excellent choice for music genres that require a lot of low-end frequency response, such as jazz, blues, and classic rock.

3. Passive Design: The passive design of the SPG-3 subwoofer eliminates the need for a separate power amplifier, which can save you money and simplify your setup.

Cons:

1. Limited Compatibility: The SPG-3 subwoofer is a passive design, which means it requires an external power source (i.e., a receiver or an amplifier) to function. This may limit its compatibility with some modern audio systems that only have line-level outputs.

2. Size and Weight: The SPG-3 subwoofer is a large and heavy piece of equipment, weighing in at around 100 pounds. This can make it difficult to transport and position in a room, and it may require a dedicated space or a sturdy stand to support its weight.

3. Limited Bass Extension: While the SPG-3 subwoofer delivers rich, warm bass, it may not provide the same level of deep, extended bass that modern subwoofers can produce. This may be a drawback for some music genres, such as electronic dance music or hip-hop, which rely heavily on low-end frequency response.

Conclusion:

The RH Logistics SPG-3 subwoofer is a classic, vintage audio component that delivers rich, warm bass with a rich, vintage design. Its passive design eliminates the need for a separate power amplifier, making it a cost-effective option for those looking to add some low-end punch to their audio system. However, its limited compatibility, size and weight, and limited bass extension may make it less suitable for some modern audio systems and music genres.

Recommendation:

If you are an audiophile or collector who values vintage design and the rich, warm sound of a solid wood subwoofer, the RH Logistics SPG-3 subwoofer is a great option to consider. However, if you have a modern audio system that only has line-level outputs or require deep, extended bass, you may want to consider a modern, active subwoofer instead. Ultimately, the decision to purchase the SPG-3 subwoofer depends on your personal preferences and audio system requirements.

Due to the size and weight of this item I am not able offer shipping services. This one measures 37 wide x 21 deep and tall standing. This is a very nice rh Labs SPX-3 subwoofer. Message if you'd like to arrange shipping.

It works well and would be a great addition to any home stereo set up with the space. Some of the veneer is chipped in places as shown and back corner piece missing a strip. It uses a single bottom facing subwoofer and passive crossover network with multiple adjustments. From what I could find online it appears rh Labs was one of the first companies to manufacture stand alone subwoofer for home systems.
